HIFIMAN just debuted a new Goldenwave tube headphone amplifier at the recent CanJam SoCal 2024, featuring pure analog sonics that are unique to this model.

The new Goldenwave GA-10 (SRP: $1,599) is an audiophile-grade headphone amplifier that features the SEPP (single-ended push-pull) circuit with eight vacuum tubes, a linear transformer, and direct tube output. The net result is crisp, detailed sonics with demonstrably improved bass response.

Among the elements that separate the GA-10 from competitive models are renowned ECC83/12AX7 (4) and EL84 (4) vacuum tubes that are found in select high-fidelity, high-priced amplifiers.  In particular, EL84 vacuum tubes are featured in leading guitar amplifiers used by some of the most successful professional musicians in the recording and performance markets, adding a delicate element of natural analog warmth to the sonics.

The power supply features a specially designed, shielded 120W transformer that contributes to the GA-10’s robust sound signature, with powerful dynamics and solid bass extension.

The GA-10 boasts 3 watts per channel at 300 Ohms, making it the perfect match for most high impedance headphones on the market. Conversely, it is also equipped to drive high efficiency , low impedance headphones, including the HIFIMAN HE1000 series models, such as the recently introduced HE1000 Unveiled.

“There is a demonstrable difference when listening to well-recorded music with an exceptional tube amplifier like the Goldenwave GA-10,” says Dr. Fang Bian, President and CEO, HIFIMAN Electronics. “Like only the best high-fidelity vacuum tube amplifiers, the GA-10 produces warm, sweet sonics that are consistently transparent and neutral.”

The Goldenwave GA-10 will be available in early November at a suggested retail price of $1,599, from authorized HIFIMAN dealers and the company’s online store, http://store.hifiman.com/. For additional information, visit https://hifiman.com.

The History of Audiophile Headphone Company: HIFIMAN

HIFIMAN, a renowned name in the world of audiophile headphones, has become synonymous with cutting-edge technology, high-performance sound, and innovation. Founded in 2007 by Dr. Fang Bian, HIFIMAN emerged as a trailblazer in the audio industry, particularly in the field of planar magnetic headphones. The company’s focus on creating high-quality, accurate, and transparent sound has earned it a loyal following among audiophiles worldwide. Over the years, HIFIMAN’s products have garnered critical acclaim for their exceptional build quality, innovative designs, and immersive listening experiences.

Foundation and Early Years

HIFIMAN was founded by Dr. Fang Bian, a former engineer with a passion for music and audio technology. Dr. Bian’s vision was clear: to create headphones that could deliver the purest, most accurate sound possible while maintaining an emphasis on comfort and durability. Initially, the company focused on planar magnetic drivers, a technology that had been around for some time but was not widely used in consumer headphones. Planar magnetic drivers use a thin diaphragm suspended between two magnetic fields, allowing for greater accuracy, lower distortion, and a more natural sound compared to traditional dynamic drivers.

HIFIMAN’s first major product, the HE-5 (released in 2009), was a game-changer in the headphone industry. It was one of the first affordable planar magnetic headphones that could compete with the high-end offerings of established audiophile brands. The HE-5’s innovative design, featuring a planar magnetic driver, quickly earned it a reputation for exceptional sound quality. This model marked the beginning of HIFIMAN’s ascent as a serious player in the audiophile headphone market.

The HE-6 and Continued Growth

In 2011, HIFIMAN took another bold step forward with the release of the HE-6. This headphone was a significant improvement over the HE-5 in terms of sound quality and design. The HE-6 was known for its transparent soundstage, detailed midrange, and deep, controlled bass, making it an instant hit among audiophiles. It also introduced a more robust and comfortable design, which would become a hallmark of future HIFIMAN headphones.

HIFIMAN’s ability to refine and innovate led to an ongoing stream of highly regarded products. In 2012, the company released the HE-400, an affordable planar magnetic headphone that made high-quality sound more accessible to a broader audience. The HE-400’s price point was significantly lower than its predecessors, and it quickly became a favorite among audiophiles looking for an entry-level planar magnetic headphone with excellent sound quality.

Technological Innovation and the Sundara Era

As the company grew, HIFIMAN continued to push the boundaries of headphone technology. One of the company’s most notable innovations was the development of the Sundara headphones in 2017. The Sundara was a significant departure from previous models, offering a more refined design and improved sound quality at a price point that made planar magnetic technology accessible to an even larger audience. The Sundara’s smooth treble, clear mids, and tight bass made it a highly popular choice among audiophiles and casual listeners alike. Its comfortable design and lightweight build also contributed to its success.

HIFIMAN also introduced the Edition XS in 2020, a headphone designed to offer even greater performance while remaining at a competitive price. This model was designed to offer high resolution and an expansive soundstage, similar to the performance of much more expensive headphones, making it a standout option for those looking for a balance of price and performance.

Flagship Models and Continued Excellence

The flagship models from HIFIMAN have consistently set the standard for audiophile headphones. The HE1000, released in 2015, and its successor, the HE1000 V2, were particularly notable for their highly detailed sound and luxurious design. These headphones represented the pinnacle of HIFIMAN’s engineering prowess, featuring advanced technologies such as a redesigned planar magnetic driver and a wider soundstage for a more immersive listening experience.

In 2020, HIFIMAN introduced the Susvara, a headphone that has garnered widespread acclaim for its near-perfect sound reproduction. The Susvara employs an advanced planar magnetic driver and ultra-thin diaphragm, enabling it to deliver unparalleled accuracy and transparency. This headphone is considered one of the best in the world, offering a dynamic range, soundstage, and detail level that is hard to match.

HIFIMAN Today

Today, HIFIMAN continues to innovate in the audiophile headphone space, constantly pushing the envelope of sound quality and comfort. Their range of headphones, from the affordable Sundara to the flagship Susvara, cater to audiophiles at all levels, ensuring that anyone can experience the company’s trademark sound quality. HIFIMAN has also expanded its product lineup to include amplifiers, DACs, and accessories designed to complement their headphones and enhance the overall listening experience.

HIFIMAN’s reputation for high-end audio gear and their commitment to innovation has solidified their place as one of the top audiophile headphone manufacturers in the world. Their products have become a staple in the audiophile community, known for their ability to reproduce music with astonishing detail and accuracy. As the company continues to refine its technologies and expand its offerings, HIFIMAN remains at the forefront of the high-end headphone industry.
