Gramophone just announced the Grand Opening of their fifth and newest showroom, the one-of-a-kind Gramophone Experience Center.
The exclusive showcase, located at 8 West Aylesbury Road in Timonium, Maryland — next door to Gramophone’s existing retail location — features some of the CE industry’s most prestigious audio brands, including Focal Powered by Naim, McIntosh, Sonus faber, Bang & Olufsen, and many more.

“The Gramophone family is extremely proud to open our finest and most elaborate showroom to date,” says Andrew Davis, CEO, Gramophone. “The new space presents real-world, highly desirable solutions for integrating design and technology. The showroom is conceived as a journey that takes visitors through various displays of art-like wall sculptures, high performance listening systems, headphones, and automation in real-world scenarios.”
Featuring the latest in high performance audio/video electronics, speakers, and accessories, Gramophone’s Experience Center represents their in-house design team’s talent for integrating technology, lighting, and design in intuitive systems.
Gramophone’s Experience Center includes the following curated audiovisual experiences:
- The Focal Powered by Naim store within a store, a luxurious space where customers experience music and discover standard-setting, exclusive high-fidelity products from both Focal and Naim.
- A McIntosh experience where clients audition the best of McIntosh‘s high-end audio products, paired with some of Sonus faber’s finest speakers, for an immersive listening experience that brings music to life.
- The Bang & Olufsen experience, a sonic and visual delight, where customers immerse themselves in the brand’s signature sound and design aesthetic.
- A ”hidden theater” with 11 concealed speakers and twin subwoofers hidden in the walls and ceiling, providing a surround sound experience that rivals traditional theaters, but without distracting from the decor.
- Virtual Window, a large-scale, immersive video experience powered by Sony, allowing users to view a wide selection of content from any location in the world, all from the comfort of their own home. Systems easily scale up or down by adding or subtracting video panels, delivering bright, vivid images – perfect for either residential or commercial spaces.
Adds Mr. Davis: “Our latest Gramophone Experience Center will inspire, captivate, and allow our customers to imagine how modern home entertainment technology can seamlessly blend with their lifestyles.”
All About Maryland’s Gramophone Audiophile and AV Retailer
Gramophone is a highly regarded audiophile and AV retailer based in Maryland, offering a wide range of premium audio equipment and home entertainment systems. Established in 1976, the company has built a reputation as one of the top destinations for high-end audio, video, and home theater solutions. Over the decades, Gramophone has earned the trust of audiophiles, home theater enthusiasts, and music lovers alike by focusing on quality, customer service, and delivering exceptional sound and visual experiences.
Founding and Early Days
Gramophone was founded by a passionate audiophile and music enthusiast, who saw a gap in the market for a specialized retailer offering audiophile-grade products and home entertainment solutions. In its early years, the store operated as a small, independent business with a goal to serve the local Maryland area. As it grew, Gramophone quickly became known for its unique ability to deliver both expert advice and high-quality products tailored to the specific needs of its customers.
The Shift to High-End Audio and AV Systems
During the 1980s, Gramophone began shifting its focus toward high-end audio and home theater systems. This was a pivotal time in the evolution of consumer electronics, as new technologies such as Dolby Surround Sound and advancements in stereo equipment were gaining traction. Gramophone’s management recognized the increasing demand for more sophisticated home entertainment setups and responded by offering a curated selection of the finest audio components from brands like McIntosh, Bowers & Wilkins, Audio Research, and Krell, among others.
Over time, the store became synonymous with top-tier products, specializing in a range of premium brands not typically found in mass-market retailers. Its commitment to providing audiophile-grade equipment and expert guidance attracted customers who were willing to invest in superior sound quality and customized home theater systems.
Expansion and Innovation
As the demand for high-end audio continued to rise, Gramophone expanded its offerings to include the latest in home automation and smart home solutions. The company partnered with brands such as Control4, Lutron, and Sonos to offer customers cutting-edge home control systems that integrated seamlessly with their AV setups.
In addition to its growing inventory, Gramophone also opened multiple locations in Maryland, including showrooms in Timonium, Columbia, and Gaithersburg, providing audiophiles with convenient access to its range of products. These showrooms were designed to create a hands-on experience, allowing customers to test different audio and video equipment in carefully constructed listening rooms. This approach provided a personal touch and gave customers a chance to experience the full capabilities of the products before making a purchase.
Gramophone’s commitment to exceptional customer service also set it apart from other retailers. The company developed a reputation for offering personalized consultations, helping customers design custom home theaters and advising on room acoustics. Its team of experienced technicians would also assist in setting up and calibrating equipment, ensuring the best possible sound and picture quality for each individual customer.
Signature Projects and High-End Installations
One of Gramophone’s major strengths lies in its ability to handle large-scale, high-end installations. The company has worked on numerous custom projects, ranging from high-performance home theaters to whole-house audio systems. It has earned a strong following in the luxury residential market, as well as among commercial clients looking for top-tier audio and video solutions.
Gramophone’s team of experts has the technical expertise to deliver complex AV installations, often working with architects and interior designers to seamlessly integrate audio and visual equipment into the aesthetic of the space. Some of its notable projects include custom home theaters in luxury homes, boardrooms for high-profile corporate clients, and even multi-zone audio systems for sprawling estates.
Great idea, have to hear it to believe how good it can sound!
